Group – 2018
Lake Clark National Park, Alaska – Brown (Grizzly) Bear Spring Cub Photography Tour
July 21, 2018 through July 26, 2018
We leave Anchorage on 7/21 in the morning arriving at Silver Salmon Creek Lodge where our bush plane is met on the beach by lodge owner David Coray. We are brought to our lodge accommodations by ATV where we can settle in, followed up by an orientation, lunch and our first foray out to photograph the bears. Tides and weather dictate our field excursions but most days we depart at 6 AM to photograph before breakfast; return for breakfast; depart again for photography until lunch, return for lunch; depart again for photography until super; return for super; and again out for photography. The latest we stay out can be up to 10 PM. On departure day 7/26 we normally can photograph in the morning, have breakfast and then get ready for our flight back to Anchorage around 10 AM.
Cost is to be determined but I expect this to be in the $5000 range covering transportation from Anchorage to Silver Salmon Creek and back, all food at the lodge, guide service and transportation in the field. Lodge staff gratuities are not included. Alcohol is not included.
Group size will be a maximum of 4 with dual occupancy in our private lodge. If someone requests a single supplement, I will work with David Coray to secure an single occupancy room in the main lodge. If that occurs, the group size may increase to 5 persons. Our lodge is two levels. The first level has two dual occupancy bedrooms with two twin beads in each and includes a shared full bathroom, kitchen, dining and living rooms. The second floor includes a bedroom with one king bed, bathroom and kitchen – this is your tour leader’s accommodation. I expect my wife Cindy to be co-leading the workshop with me. She was with us on this same trip in July 2014 and helped the participants in-the-field.
I will have a more in-depth PDF download as we get closer to the workshop available. In the interim, if you are interested please contact me at email@example.com.
I have three trip reports from our 2014 tour that will detail what happened on that tour including images made. The wrap-up includes kudos from participants.
Our 2014 group from left; Ron May, Cindy Amoruso, Robert Amoruso, David Kennedy, Keith Kennedy, Richard Mittleman and Cody Hesse (our all-too-capable guide and bear whisperer).
One of my most popular images from the 2014 tour. Sow with two first year cubs. She was a pleasure to photograph.
Birds, Wildlife and Scenic Photography Workshops by Boat
Photograph from a Boat using my Custom Gheenoe Low Tide 25 Microskiff
Up to two persons can accompany me for a morning or day of photography from my Custom Gheenoe Low Tide 25 Microskiff (pictures coming). Locations include Lake Blue Cypress (Ospreys primary species), Lake Kissimmee (Ospreys, Eagles, Snail Kites), Lake Toho (Snail Kites a primary species), Stick March (nesting Roseate Spoonbills primary species and others), plus other locations to be announced.
Unlike some operators I do not bait or phish in an attempt to draw these species in. I keep a respectful distance and work not to upset or target species. NANPA ethical guidelines are adhered to. In the lakes we will stay in the boat so hand-held or monopod shooting is mandatory. I routinely take great images with my handheld Tamron 150-600mm equipped Nikon D810 or my Sigma 150-600mm Sports equipped Canon 5D MKIII / 5DS R / 7D MKII.
Pricing and dates to be announced.
